BITA Pathways engages with adults experiencing mental health problems on a pathway towards person-centred recovery through personal development, learning, volunteering, employment and well-being.

Centrally located in the Digbeth area, BITA Pathways is the largest independent voluntary sector provider of learning and work services for adults with mental ill health. Celebrating its 50th year of operation BITA Pathways can demonstrate a proven track record including successful outcomes for individuals who engage with the service.

BITA Pathways aims to offer a person-centred recovery focused service that provides a range of opportunities designed to assist adults experiencing mental ill health in progressing towards employment. The objective is to promote personal growth and independence, with the focus on skills development.

Founded in 1963 BITA Pathways, the working title of Birmingham Industrial Therapy Association, is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee governed by a small non-executive Board of Directors.

The garden centre is a surprising little haven in Aston, an inner city suburb of Birmingham and
offers a retail outlet,training and well-being activities.

The garden centre is a developing social enterprise and stocks a wide range of shrubs, herbaceous perennials, vegetable plants and herbs. We specialise in seasonal bedding plants, the majority of which are grown on site by our service users and volunteers, and we pride ourselves on the quality of our stock. We produce a range of hanging baskets and containers and can also make them to order to customer specification. In addition, we stock houseplants, compost, top soil, bark chippings, decorative stone, garden fertilizers and sundries.

We also have a small tea shop offering tea and homemade cake, served in pretty vintage china,
with a small sheltered outdoor seating area. We are proud to stock a range of goods produced by volunteers in other areas of BITA Pathways and these include homemade chutney, floral
arrangements (also available to order), woodcraft and pottery items, which are produced at our Pottery Studio in Martineau Gardens, Edgbaston.

We are an accredited City & Guilds training site and we offer Level 1 training in
horticulture, to people experiencing mental ill health.

Learners are encouraged to volunteer at the centre alongside, or upon completion of their course,
to enhance their learning and experience in a horticultural environment which provides an invaluable opportunity in an authentic work setting.
